The energy in the room was amazing, and it was clear that everyone was genuinely committed to the purpose of the gala.
The networking opportunities were also great. I had the chance to connect with like-minded women from various industries, share experiences, and make new connections. These connections have not only enriched my professional network but also provided a source of ongoing support and inspiration.
Overall, the Women of Impact event was a powerful reminder of the incredible things that can happen when women come together in support of each other. It reinforced the idea that collective action can lead to meaningful change and that every contribution, no matter how small, is valuable.

How does an Auction work?
Our Auctioneer Rodney Fong will Introduce the item up for auction, describing its features, value, and why it’s special. Highlight any unique aspects or benefits to owning the item.
He will then open the floor for a starting bid. This is typically set at a lower amount than the item’s value to encourage participation. For example, if the item is valued at $600, you might start the bidding at $300.
He will encourage the audience to place their bids by raising their hands/calling out. The auctioneer will call out the bids as they come in, gradually increasing the amount as people bid higher.
Once the bidding slows down, the auctioneer will begin the final call: “Going once, going twice, sold!” This gives participants a last chance to place a bid before the item is sold to the highest bidder.
The highest bidder wins the item! The winner will then pay by card (Card available/paywave) and you can take home your winnings at the end of the evening!

“It’ll Pass”

All my titles are reflection of my mental state mostly.
It’s called “It’ll Pass” as a reminder that no matter how tough it is right now and that it might feel like everything is falling apart, it will pass and that you will get what is meant for you. So essentially this piece is about strength and persistence.
NZ based artist, Amrit Kaur works across a range of mediums. Her practice investigates nature’s often overlooked beauty and revolves around unpredictability and adventure where each piece goes on a journey of self-discovery. With no definitive end in mind, her pieces start out in nature, influenced by her surroundings, before getting resolved in the solitude of her Auckland studio.
This is a nod to the complexities of life where we are influenced by what’s happening around us but, in the end, we return to ourselves to make sense of it all. Amrit is not interested in capturing the details but in highlighting the subtleness her of subject through design and elements. Kaur collects relics from nature, sketching and taking notes while outdoors and then embedding those onto her canvas back in her studio.
Play and freedom are a big part of Amrit’s work.

Meet our main speaker and founder of Kura Kai
Makaia Carr
Makaia Carr has always had a passion for supporting rangatahi, in particular young māori boys and girls. Inspired by a local school’s “compassion freezer”, Makaia loved the idea of giving families direct help through a home-cooked meal, and the Kura Kai concept was born.
One of New Zealand’s original social media influencers, Makaia is using her social media platforms to spread the Kura Kai message and attract support to help take Kura Kai to more and more High Schools.
Her work targets high schools because the teen years can be that crucial “fork in the road” period when rangatahi often come under pressure to make some big decisions, ones that can impact the course of their future. Too many of our rangatahi are having to leave their education to gain employment at an early age to help financially support their whanau, sadly ending their education far too early.
“When helping teenagers, there can be a lot of whakamā (shame). So we try to help empower them by giving them access to the kai so they can make the choice and have options available to help someone in their whānau or in the community that they have identified as needing a bit of support,” says Makaia, who was herself a young mum.
It is Makaia’s hope that the Kura Kai freezers become an accessible hub of kai that the wider school community enjoy using and hopefully give teens and their whānau just one more reason to stay in school and focus on their education.

Their focus on secondary schools stems from the recognition of the pivotal role of a completed secondary education in shaping the future of youth. Moreover, they aim to instill the values of manaakitanga and community care in rangatahi, encouraging them to identify and support individuals and families within their communities who require assistance.
At the heart of the organisation are its volunteers, who epitomise the spirit of manaakitanga in their selfless contributions. Their unwavering commitment enables Kura Kai to fulfil its mission of “Whānau cooking for Whānau,” embodying the essence of caring for one another.
The kaupapa revolves around nurturing a sense of manaakitanga among rangatahi, emphasising self-care and community support through the provision of lovingly prepared meals.
In summary, Kura Kai is dedicated to fostering a culture of care, support, and empowerment within communities, one meal at a time.
